As some of you might know Peter Jackson was in line to do the JJR Tolkien "The Hobit" as an installment of his films, but there was an on again off again legeal issues that have clouded the production... if it ever even gets done.

Entertainment Weekly has a very good article on this on their website. Its long, but if you're a fan, its worth a read. I'd love to see PJ do this project, I hope it comes together.

I really couldn't see anyone else doing this project TBH, he just did such an amazing job with the series. The directors cuts are just awesome too. :)

I'd rather it didn't get done to en extent if PJ was not on board.

Agreed dude, well said. Does it have an estimated date of release to theatres?

I really hope he gets to do it.

I'm guessing the release date would be 2010+ for sure if they started filming this winter.

2010 huh, sounds like a large developement phase. Then again I don't know anything about movie making. Hope it turns out great.

I'm just guessing.

but if the second Transformers isn't comeing out until 2009 ... and they are going to make it. I'm guessing a movie in limbo can only take longer :(

From what it said he does have two planned movies, so it wouldnt be in the very near future, but I'm not sure of a date. Knowing its getting done would be cool enough, I'm patient. ;D

Theres only one Return okay. And it's not of the King, its of the Jedi. There is, has been, and only ever will be one original Trilogy.

:) lol

Lotr 1-3 are tied for my favorite movie of all time. Then Star Wars 4-6 are tied for second. Even though the actor who did Bilbo looks to old to do him now if you look at Xmen 3 when they do the flashback of when Patrick Stewart was younger you will notice his face is not taped back at all like how Bilbo was done in Fellowship but instead they reduced the wrinkles with computers. I believe they could use him again.

Here's a good site to keep up with all things Tolkien - http://www.theonering.net/
I visited this site daily when the LOTR movies were in the works.

They're going to make two movies. Jackson wil be exec producer, but won't direct. Lots of speculation about how this will play out. Most seem to think that The Hobbit will be the first movie, with a strong possibility that the second movie will cover the intervening years between the time of The Hobbit and LOTR.

A lot of stuff happened in Middle Earth between the adventures of The Hobbit and the time of the LOTR. It could make a great 2nd movie, because the stuff is mentioned by Tolkien in various books, but there's not a lot of details, so there's some freedom to be creative.

Here's a little article on it that gives an idea of what lots of people seem to want to happen --

Good find Havok! I was gonna post that same info! PJ is gonna produce it, and forgot who's in line to direct. 2 movies filmed at once with the first coming out in 09/10, and the second the following year!?!? Can't wait to see some more stuff on this!

Well, Peter Jackson did a very good job with the LOTR movies, and I imagine The Hobbit will be more of the same. He's not directing, but I think I read where he will have creative input on The Hobbit as part of the deal.

LOTR. I wonder how those movies would have turned out with someone else at the helm? I know that in my case, I was just very happy that someone didn't screw up what has always been a very special story for me. I DO believe that those movies could have been better, but who am I to complain? They were very good, and I've watched them many times over and still enjoy them a great deal.

I heard he has a wicked idea on some new sci-fi series centered around a war and there is an "order" of some kind that may or may not represent the following of "light", and the bad guys all wear black or greay as if they follow the "dark" or shadows... sounds amazing. ;)

Actually I think he's a fine director, but I see your point. :D
