View Full Version : EAxis strikes again.
Here's an interesting bit of information to chew on. Looks like EA wants to buy Take-Two, the publishers of the upcoming GTA IV game. what you all think? Good thing? Bad thing? Somewhere-in-between thing?

EA wants to buy everything.......
I also heard a rumor that they may be attempting a new bid on EIDOS........(mind you this is still a rumor, but...)

I dont mind if other companies buy other companies as long as they dont force the smaller studios to change there games. EA bought Bioware so hopefully EA will give them more funding but wont turn there games into crap.

I like EA and sometimes its hit and miss with buyouts and the next game produced by the "bought" company... I think the GTA series is coming to downward spike and ultimately to a close in my opinion.

EA buys out MMOs and then shuts them down or runs them into the ground... Earth and Beyond, Motor City Online, Ultima Online 2, DAoC... It's sad.
I dislike EA very much.

Ive been playing GTA since the first one came out. I really didnt care much for SA im not racist but I dont want to play a gangsta, but I did like how they had skills in the game. There is not much more you can do to add onto GTA but I still love to see how quick I can piss off the cops and how long I can run away from them.
EA reminds me of Micro$oft in a way. MS holds a huge dominance over the OS market, while they're still only a single company... However EA wants to hold a huge dominance over the gaming market by buying out as many companies as they can.

Don't even get me started on the big corporation thing.
When they introduced "management styles" to the police department and started trying to run it like a corporation I knew the end was near. I don't give a damn what the experts say.... a PD is not a business and shouldn't be run like one.

I find it funny that people seem to have a problem when US or EU companies try to buy out others but have no problem with the way Japan runs it's buisness where you have about 5 major companies that own all the others.
You guys are missing that Take-two is the publisher, not developer, of the 2ksport series which is competition for EA Sports games.

I don't have a problem with buyouts. I have a problem with buyouts, that then shutdown something I like because it was competition.

Exactly! Can't beat the competition - buy them outright. He who has the gold, makes the rules.
Oh I know it was Take-two who is the publisher... but EA does one of two things. Eliminates competition (publishers) or tears a game down and tries to milk it for every penny they can before saying "bye guys!" (UO)

The scariest thing for me is that when EA touches something other then sports it means that genre or license is done (read: James Bond series). I would hate to see GTA gone...the games are waaaaay too good. This next one is going to be amazing.
Well Nevius with EA just buying out the publisher (Rockstar is still the producer) I don't think GTA will die. But then, who knows, Rockstar could just be the next step too.

Well.....EA isn't stupid .... why would they want to kill off GTA....that's like $100M profit for GTA 4 and then GTA 5 and so on ...okay I may be exagerating but still. And by them buying another publisher it allows them to release games that they might not want the EA logo on.

C'mon! Show EA some love! The BF series is totally rock solid imo. Lots of fun. Also..EA sports games? Good stuff too (back when I played them) and as far as them buying up MMOs and runing them into the ground..I have a feeling they were already well on their way downhill.
Oh, oh! EIDOS..Yes..YES! Buy it! And for crying out loud..finish the Blood Omen series!!@# Though, if EA screws up Blood Omen..I might be inclined to go on a trip, and have a little one on one with its CEO John Riccitiello :barb:
How dare they not finish the story on one of gamings most original badass characters.

Mat, name one MMO that EA bought that was already going downhill. Ultima Online was huge (back then) before EA bought it. Once they got their hands on it they added another faction to the game called Trammel which was PvE and no PvP... the next day they lost over 10,000 accounts because PvP is what made UO... well, UO.

Well, I'll need a list of all of the MMO games that have been bought by EA. And as far as UO goes..At around the time Trammel came about (which is famous for being complained about - didn't know EA had anything to do with such) EverQuest was coming into its own. Breaking all sorts of barriers for the MMO world. The..new standard.
I also recall that Trammel did have PvP. Just now they had safe zones or some such? Not entirely informed on it. I didn't really start online gaming seriously till 98. And losing 10,000 accounts is bad..Losing 120,000 (Sony ruining SWG) is worse. EA may have done some bad..But also some good to hopefully balance it all out. Sony Online..not so much. Once they really sunk their teeth into the money that EQ was making and took it from its creators..it was GG.

EA does have success stories, but I can't think of a single one in the MMO field.

Actually, come to think of it, I can't think of any non-console success stories...

All I'll say is that the EA Sports games are awsome, The BF games are awsome. I honestly can't really think of any other EA games out there.
As I've said before....the MMO market is saturated right now. 10 come out and only 2-3 last more then a year.
If EA does buy it....it'll either end up being a good thing, bad thing or we won't notice any difference. But think about the EA Sports guys working with the 2k Sports guys and the BF guys working with the GTA guys. That could end up makeing some pretty interesting games.

It's really a simple strategy if you can't beat your competition buy them out and then dismantle them.... I hate it but if you got the cash like EA and people are willing to sale even though they know your track record how can you be mad at them.
They steadily increase their profit margin and find ways to crush their competition like the buying of the NFL License. They new without a good nfl game @Ksports would begin to falter..... now they just pick up the pieces
I only wish they would use their powers for good instead of evil . We could see some great games then

Trammel had no PvP. Zilch. Zero. None. Felucca and Trammel were the two factions. They were basically clones of the world except one was PvP the other wasn't. Felucca (or Fel) turned into nothing but group ganking group. And back in the days of UO 10,000 accounts was actually a lot... now with SWG yes, I agree 120,000 accounts is a lot more but like I said, back in it's day 10k was a huge chunk (especially UO at it's peak was only about 150,000) and mind you I only said the first day after the patch. Shortly after a lot more accounts were lost as more people logged in and found the unnanounced change. But I rant...
Now, I don't completely hate EA. EA Sports is good, but every MMO EA has ever sneezed on shortly died afterwards, only a dull, shrivled husk of the glory it was before.

Ahh, well you see! I can't claim to know much about UO. I remember considering buying it back when it came out, however at that time I didn't own a computer of my own. So..no luck :| But anyways, you are correct about the 10k being a huge chunk of people back in the day *nod*..Though I was trying to say that we should focus our powers on Sony! While being a playstation fanboy...I really can't stand what they've done to the MMO's they've touched. *cries* SWG was beautiful..awesome enviroments! Good times..
Anyways, I'm sure we were going somewhere with this, but I don't remember where. Pub? Pub.
